演講摘要|Remarkable advances in fundamental neuroscience research and next-generation neurotechnology have occurred in the past twenty years. Among the major forerunners in these areas are BCI, which create a direct communication pathway between the human brain and an external device or system. In this talk, Dr. Chuang will first review some results obtained in a 8-year collaborative work between Taiwan, UCSD, and US Army Research Lab. He leveraged neuroimaging device equipped with promising brain features to demonstrate BCI’s ability to minimize the probability that a driver would fall asleep at the wheel. He took a further step and proved that over-reliance on in-vehicle technologies may result in reduced situational awareness and low task engagement, as evidenced by brain connectivity network and behavioral data. Then, he will present some recent works on brain dynamics associated with spatial navigation and multitasking. Finally, implications of BCIs for education will be discussed.
